What keeps you going?

Sometimes I find it so difficult to motivate myself.  I go to the gym often enough, but get frustrated when I don't feel like I'm getting any results.  I call them my "dark moments" where you think...."My god, am I EVER gonna reach my goal!!?!??"

I'm so close to my goal (only about 10lbs away) and I've been there for the past few months (though to be completely honest, I wasn't as "good" as I could have been).  Those last few pounds are always the trickiest to get rid of.....I know that.  But I still find myself having a lot of those "dark moments" where I think I'm never gonna get there.

I know a lot of people feel this way often and I was wondering what you do to tell yourself to keep going.  Is there any motto or quote you once heard that inspires you to keep at it?  I figure since we all have those "dark moments" (even the strongest of people),  I thought it'd be fun to share the things you tell yourself to keep yourself going.  I'm sure we can ALL use some good inspiration!!

For me, it's something someone once told me, which was to not worry about the little stuff because if you keep moving and working at it, it will happen without you realizing it.

My motto is "Appreciate today's successes"....that's what I tell myself all the time!  (tho I don't always listen.....*winks*)

Hi Diane,

I read your post on the way to work and can relate to your post. I have a saying I use 'swap it don't stop it' to keep me motivated.  I can't take the credit for it.  It always work for me in those dark yucky moments.

I find once i am started it's fine.

Unlike you i fear, hate what ever the word is GYMS are just a no for me. So i went drastic and gave up my car. Yeap no driving any where see i told you i hate GYMS. Still have a family car for family trips.

I swapped driving for walking and it has been the best thing i have ever done been at it awhile know approx two years. The climate here is really mild no snow, blizzards  etc though  it has turned really cold this week  approx 4 to 6 degrees so walking out at 6.30 am i swapped shoes for nice boots.  Have a warmer Jacket . Swapped the icy cold weather for nice new warm gloves, scarves and all is okay again.

Hubby now drops my daughter at work as it's to cold for her to come with me. So I can't use that as an excuse. So i swapped the lifts ,escalator and short cuts for stairs, slightly long path and a run.

Swap it don't stop it helped me swap my size 16's for sizes  4 and a 6 now.

I swapped hot chocolates for a little retail splurge for the children or me.

Oh I LOVE "Swap it, Don't Stop it".  I've never heard of that before, but what a great motto.  No reason to stop working out just because you don't like one thing.  There are always other things to do.

How awesome that you're able to go without a car!!! That takes a lot of dedication, but if you can manage it where you live, then it's a good thing to do!!

And congrats on the weight loss!!!! I know how great it feels!!! I went from a size 12/14 to a 6 and, for the most part, I couldn't be happier!! Except for the fact that I don't feel completely done just yet.

But again, my motto..."Appreciate Today's Successes".....so I just finished a Spin class.  And gotta be proud of that!!

I'm definitely gotta keep the "Swap it" idea in mind next time I don't feel like doing something. Or if I feel like eating something I shouldn't.  There's always something else to do!!
