I can see Ben enjoying going hiking with his mommy. And Megan must love it too. I just love this pic.
I love going running early in the morning, my usual time to go running is from 5:30am - 6am depending on what time i get off the bed. LOL

Hey Everyone,
Summer is the perfect time for hikes with your whole family—and there are ways to make even a beginner level excursion a great workout for you.
I love to hike with my kids and dogs in the state park near my house, and we do a lot more of that during the summer, when Ben is out of school. But a family hike doesn’t usually mean keeping an aggressive pace up for hours on end. Ben certainly likes to stop and “smell the roses”—by which I mean look at beetles, dig up rocks, and draw with sticks in the dirt. I love that he’s exploring nature, and don’t want to stop him from doing that, but I also want to keep my heart rate up and use this outdoor time as a chance for a solid workout.
So while he’s sidetracked, I do squats and lunges, or 100 jumping jacks. When he’s done poking around, I encourage him to get his butt in gear and hike quickly with me. It’s good for kids to learn what it’s like to get out of breath, too! If I’m hiking with my daughter, I carry her in a backpack or Baby Bjorn, and keep my pace up as much as possible. The extra weight means an extra challenge (and extra strengthening) for me.
What are your tricks for squeezing the most fitness for you out of your family outings?
xo

I am lucky enough to live in the mountains with endless miles of trails and different hiking opportunities. Lung Busting cardio climbing trails, or flat trails for quick hikes or trail runs. Carrying bear spray of course.
I never have to worry about not getting a workout- my husband hikes so fast, just keeping up with him requires a lot of work.
Try running the Beartooth Run! 8.4 miles straight uphill 2400 ft ele gain. It's pure punishment :)
When my mom and I go on walks we try to shake it up a little. Instead of walking the whole time, we walk part of the time, then skip part of the time, then gallop, then jumping jacks, then moving our arms quickly, then back to a calmer pace. It is good because it is sort of a warm-up workout cool-down all in one; and It is really fun especially if yu can make some things a race like who can do more jacks or who can skip the highest. (atleast we have fun)
Terri, that is a crazy story! I totally know what you mean. One time on a family holiday we rented bikes, and the guy in the bike shop told us it was 'a couple miles' to the beach. ha. try 7. (we later checked on a map) because by the end, we were EXHAUSTED!!!
Ali, we appreciate how you are helping to inspire people to feel bodyproud. As you can see by the name associated with this account, that is exactly what we have dedicated over a decade of our lives doing. It's great that you have such a huge following and the ability to inspire people in tremendous ways. Thank you for being a great leader and bodyproud role model.
Love the tip about how to get more out of a family hike, by the way. When we take our pups out for a hike, we bring a stroller, because the little guy (who is older) gets tired, and can't keep up with us and his younger dog brothers.
Thank you again!
Hiking is amazing we love it! Being in El Paso the hiking is a bit more dangerous. Hopefully one day we will be back in ND and get to hike the black hills (Medora) again!!
My husband and I went on a family 'hike' with our 3 year old and 6 week old this weekend. Was so nice to get back to getting active after having the baby. And too add a little more pizazz to the workout I challenged my 3 year old to short sprints to trees, pole, or rocks along the way. Really amped it up for both of us and he had fun 'beating' mom at MOST of the races. (Can't let him win every time;)
My husband and I hike atleast twice a month. We like Geocaching. We use that to help us to stay motivated to get moving and walking. We go to the different state parks some close and some far away from the house. So we put my daughter in the running stroller which is great on the paths. When we find what we are looking for we take her out and walk around. It really is a great way to get us out of the house and exercising.
