Hi everyone,

Last week, we asked you about your go-to healthy snacks on a hot summer day. One of my favorite responses came from this week’s Mom of the Week: Kelly!

Here’s what Kelly had to say:

"Kabobs! There are so many different kid-friendly options. My daughter loves to help make these. Sometimes we use cheese, turkey, tomatoes, and grapes or other times we just use fresh or dried fruits. I cut up the pieces and my daughter has a great time putting them on skewers. Also, sometimes I let her cut the food into shapes with cookie cutters and we use crazy straws for the skewers. You can then put these into a kid-friendly smoothie to dress it up and make it fun! Another fun and easy summertime snack is to put yogurt tubes in the freezer. These make a great, healthy dessert."

It looks like you are new to the community, Kelly. Welcome! Those are both very cool snacks for a hot summer day! I love the idea of making the kabob ingredients even cuter by cutting them out with cookie cutters. If you've never tried this before, here are a couple good examples:

What kind of shoes do you wear for playing with the kids?

Do you have a pair of "play shoes" that perform well on the playground—and look good enough to wear in public? We want to know what's on your feet when you're having fun with your kids! Let us know in the comment section below.

My favorite shoes for the park are my flip flops. I love that I can kick them off fast so I can chase after my 3 1/2 yr old twins. I love the feel of the grass on my feet too. The best part is that I am 6 months pregnant so I don't have to lean over to tie my shoes when I have to get them back on!!

I am a grammy, but I still follow (not run) the Grands around.  I have to wear my trusty New Balance "running" shoes to keep up with my precious grandchildren, especially the little one almost 18 months.  Love my tennies and my Grands!

Simple tennis shoes. They are light weight and classic.

I am a full time mom of a 2 1/2 year old boy and a 1 year old girl. And I wear my shape up shoes all the time. When I take my kids to the park. I run with my son and exercise at the same time. It helps me keep in shape and keeps me up with my kids. I love my shape ups. I use them everywhere.

I can't live without my flip flops!  I'm not a girly girl at all, but I do have flip flops in almost every color!  They're easy to slip on and off and comfortable to play in!  My son is 4 and we love nothing more than kicking around a ball, digging in the dirt for worms and playing in the mud!  Flip flops are easy to wash off after those great mommy/son moments too!

I've got these great, colorful pair of Reebok EasyTone's that I designed myself on their website. So while I'm playing with the kiddos I get in a little extra butt work. They even have Fit and Fab up the back heel of each shoe, as a little reminder to keep healthy for my 2 little ones. My kids call them my balance shoes. They pair great with shorts and a tee or jeans and casual tank.

I always wear my last pair of running sneakers when playing with the kids.....I try to be religious about getting new running sneakers every six months or so because I have lower back issues, but I hate to just toss the old ones because in truth they still look good and fit, they're just not supportive enough for my runs anymore....so I turn my old sneakers into play shoes for when I'm out playing with the kids and into shoes for when I'm working in my garden.

right now I wear my Danskos......LOVE them!!
