Spray What?
Posted by Ali Sweeney on Feb 22, 2011

Hi everyone,

My hairstylist Matthew creates styles for me at Biggest Loser that have to last for an entire weigh-in, which sometimes takes hours to shoot. And at Days? Those hairstyles often need to last all day. Obviously, hair spray is a necessity.

While my hair is being sprayed for work, I always protect my skin and makeup with a piece of paper (usually my script or the challenge rules or notes). It's such an ingrained habit for me that I didn't think about it until I saw this picture (above).

But when I'm getting myself ready at home, I don't usually have a script with me! So I try to use my hand to protect my face, or I just aim carefully. Neither technique works. Which is too bad, because it's a good idea to keep hairspray in your hair and off your face. A thick layer of hairspray isn't great for your skin! This photo reminded me that even when I'm at home, I should keep something close by to tuck under my hair so the spray goes only where I want it.

Do you have any tips for keeping hair products off your face?

xo

Ali

I use a mirror to look at the back of my hair while styling, so I just turn that around and use the back of it to protect my face when I am spraying with hairspray.

Hi Ali, I don't have a hair suggestion but I just wanted to point out that great sign in the background of your photo. "Please, shut the bleep up." ROFL... I am now going to go shopping for it online.

I am always getting hair spray where it doesn't belong...I try to use my hand which doesn't work. :) Sharon has a great idea using the mirror on the other side. I will be using this tip and paper when I'm not home and don't have the mirror.

they clear plastic visor like they in surgery .not sure to buy them .But I have seen them in catalogs like Harriet Carter . Hope that helps Marie Serio

Hey Ali,

I hardly every use hairspray, so I don't have any tips.  When I do use it, I too just spray away and it gets all over...haha...and usually on my glasses!  I guess a small washcloth would work and that is always handy in a bathroom.

I did want to tell you how surprised I was today - I had an envelope today from New York and I'm thinking 'what is this??'.  It was a little card to put in my Mommy Diet book from you!  I wasn't expecting that at all, so nice surprise!

I'm also so happy to hear you and the rest of the BL crew are all okay over in New Zealand....you guys were the first thing I thought of when I heard the news this morning.  I know we (your fans) don't 'know you' know you, but for me,  watching you on Days since I was a little girl, you are like an extension of my family...is that weird?  To think that something might have happened to you and your family, it was a little scary!

Take care!  Bridget

Ha, not to be totally silly- but does anyone remember how on the show "Full House," the 'Uncle Jesse' character invented a hairspray-face-sheild and then went on HSN to sell thema nd they were like falling apart haha ; ) hahaha this post totally reminded me of that episode--ahhhhh childhood television shows, so silly!

i usually block my face with whatever magazine is closest, lol.  or my hand.  id rather have the spray on my hand, which is easier to wash, then my freshly made up face!  and DubsK, i remember the uncle jesse shield!  lolol.  the Full House ep I remember best is the one when Jesse got married and went sky diving and as he's parachuting down you see the little parachuting person and hear Jesse's voice 'Did I forget my mousse?'.  that struck me so funny!

www.sallybeauty.com   Go to this site and type face shield in the search engine.  My Mother is a stylist and she uses this all the time.
